The Rise of the Empire

Chapter 2524: Heroes Start From the Humble Beginnings

Who is Marcel Brocher? Ordinary people may not know this name, but if it is changed to another name, it can definitely be described as a household name! Marcel Dassault knows who it is? Even if you don't know the name, you at least know what Dassault is, right? The famous Dassault aircraft manufacturing company has designed a series of classic aircraft from the mysterious fighter, the Mirage 3 series fighter, the Mirage 2000 to the Rafale! And Marcel Brochet is the founder of Dassault!

Well, why did Marcel Brochet later change his name to Dassault? There is also a little story here. Dassault was originally the alias of Marcel Brochet's brother Paul Brochet when he participated in the resistance movement during World War II. After the Second World War in history, Marcel Brochet vowed not to let France be invaded, so he changed his name to Marcel Dassault. And changed the name of its own aircraft manufacturing company to Dassault Aircraft Manufacturing Company. This was later known as Dassault Corporation.

In the jet age, Dassault's name can be described as thunderous. His talent and courage are amazing. But some people may ask, why didn't Dassault have such a great reputation and achievements in the era of propellers? Could it be that the old Marcel specialized in jet aircraft and was not good at propeller aircraft?

How do you say this? This is not to say that Marcel is not capable, but that he is not very lucky. If someone knows Marcel's life, then what happened to Marcel in his youth can only be described as ill-fated.

Marcel was born in 1892 into a family of Jewish doctors. Loved aviation since childhood, and he ended up studying at the Breguet School and the Higher School of Aviation, two of the top aviation science schools in France. And then, he started his aviation career.

The starting point of Marcel's aviation career was in 1916 when he founded a propeller company named "France". Historically, the various fighter jets produced by French SPAD used the propellers designed by Marcel. And at this time, he was just 24 years old! In the same year, he founded the SEA company, and began to design and produce aircraft. In the end, this high-performance fighter called SEA VI made its first flight in 1917 and won an order from the French government. Then on November 11, 1918, the first fighter was delivered to the French Air Force. Just in time for the Armistice Day of the First World War…. Therefore, the future of the excellent SEA VI fighter jet is doomed. The war is over, and the French Air Force, which has no pressure, will naturally not fulfill the previous order. There were originally 1,000 orders, but only 115 were finally delivered..... .. So with the cessation of production, the first airline founded by Marcel closed down!

Later, Marcel used to manage real estate and cars for his livelihood, and gained certain financial benefits. If there is no accident, Marcel will eventually become a successful businessman rather than a famous aircraft designer. division. However, in 1927, when Marcel witnessed Charles Lindbergh flying the "Spirit of St. Louis" plane across the Atlantic in 33 hours, Marcel's aviation dream was ignited again! So he returned to aviation in 1928.

And established Marcel. Broche company! That is the predecessor of the real Dassault Corporation!

Subsequently, Marcel designed the MB60 post office, MB80 air ambulance, MB120 three-engine passenger plane, and MB200 twin-engine bomber.

What can I say about this aircraft? Its performance was good when it first flew in 1934 and was equipped with troops in 1936. The overall level is almost the same as the DO17Z, which was a little later than the Germans. It is definitely not as good as the later JU88 and HE111? DO217 type of aircraft, but the performance is also considered passable. The passenger plane MB220 designed at the same time is actually very good, and it is on the same level as the American DC3, and the DC3 has a very famous derivative model, that is the C47 transport aircraft.... It can be seen that Marcel's level is still very high, not to mention that all of them are classics, but there are also some high-quality products!

Then Marcel suffered a second blow to his aviation career when his airline was nationalized by the French government in 1936. … Then, Marcel, who turned from a boss to a wage earner, continued to design military aircraft for the French army. In the last period before World War II, Marcel designed the MB150 fighter, MB130 and MB170 reconnaissance aircraft. Among them, the MB150 fighter jet has become one of the main fighter jets of the French Air Force, but it is a pity that its performance is relatively poor, and its maximum flight speed is just over 500 kilometers.

However, how could the old Marcel, who had his own ambition in his heart, be a wage earner for a lifetime? So, while working at Southwest Airlines, the old Marcel opened his own third aircraft manufacturing company...  Designed the MB160 airliner. This aircraft can be regarded as an upgraded version of MB220. The empty weight of this aircraft is 9400KG, and the maximum take-off weight is 14500KG. Four 720 horsepower liquid-cooled engines are used. It first flew in mid-1937.

As for the results of this 4-engine aircraft? Naturally, it was interrupted by the Second World War that broke out later.... After the war, however, improved versions of the aircraft continued and were ordered by French and Polish airlines. Subsequently, 100 of this aircraft, known as SE161, were also sold, which can be regarded as an unsatisfactory end to Marcel's aircraft.

After the outbreak of World War II, the saddest time in Marcel's life came. Because he refused to cooperate with the French Vichy government, Marcel was imprisoned and was not freed until he was rescued by the US military in 1945. So far, Dassault, who has experienced too many failures, began to change his luck, and changed his name to Marcel Dassault in 1947. Thus began the glory of Dassault Aviation during the Cold War!

(And this kind of brilliance is not only in fighter jets but also in business jets. For example, the Falcon series private jets are still very popular. If you are interested in this, you can check it out. There are not many authors. said.)

The first half of Marcel's life can be described as indomitable and courageous as he gets frustrated. It is the first half of life of struggle, the first half of life of will overcoming misfortune. The war ended, his company went bankrupt, the war broke out, his company went bankrupt, even if there was no war, his company was bought...  It's okay for airlines to be so aggrieved. What is even more commendable is that he made a lot of money in the real estate industry. As a result, Marcel still devotes a lot of energy and resources to the aviation industry. This kind of perseverance in the aviation industry is indeed admirable!
