The Rise of the Empire

Chapter 2541 Truck Demand One

Apart from political and economic reasons, the need for future wars also makes the crown prince have to prepare as much as possible! You know, in this era, cars, especially trucks, are still a very high-end industrial product! The cars of this era are far from the level that many of the later generations need to cut production capacity in the 21st century!

For example, in the history of World War II, Germany produced only 62,400 trucks and 7,500 half-track vehicles in 1941. In 1942, there were only 78,200 trucks and 10,700 half-tracks! In 1943, German truck production reached its peak! A total of 109,085 vehicles! By 1944, the German truck production was 88,088. Although it has fallen back, it is far more than the Soviet Union, which produced 53,467 trucks in the same period!

However....... These trucks are far from enough! The reason is simple, there is a bt named the United States on the side of the Allies! Historically, the Soviet Union produced a total of 343,000 cars during World War II, and the United States gave the Soviet Union 343,624 cars! Among them, the output of trucks is as high as 313,184, the number of cars is as high as 20,968, and the rest are buses! And if you want to consider the performance of the truck, the GAZ series with a general horsepower of only 40 to 50 horsepower is naturally incomparable with American trucks.

Leaving aside those authentic trucks in the United States, the horsepower of the GAZ series is even lower than that of the Willy mb jeep! The latter also has 65 horsepower! This car looks like a jeep, and it is positioned as a 0.25-ton light vehicle, but it is very high in use! Usually can be used to tow 75mm light howitzers.

As for comparing Soviet GAZ cars with genuine American trucks, the gap is even bigger! For example, GM's cckw 2.5-ton truck uses a 105-horsepower engine. Although the power of Stubaker's us6 2.5-ton truck is lower, it also has 87 horsepower. To be honest, the so-called GAZ series trucks from the Soviet Union can only be regarded as Jeeps in the United States in terms of power system!

If you take the Opel Lightning truck with the largest production volume of the Germans in World War II as a standard. Then the British counterpart to it is the American 2.5-ton truck series. Historically, Germany's wartime production of Opel trucks was about 82,000. But what about the Americans? The output of the cckw 2.5-ton trucks mentioned by Guangtong Company is as high as 562,750! It is about 7 times the output of Opel trucks! Even the production of Stubaker US6 cars with relatively small production volume is 197,000, which is more than twice that of Opel trucks! And the size of the German first-line army is much larger than that of the US Army!

Therefore, a result can be analyzed only from these data, that is, the production of automobiles in Germany in history is far from enough for demand! A very important problem for the German Army on the Eastern Front in World War II was poor logistical supplies. On the one hand, it was because of the poor road conditions in Russia. On the other hand, it was because the number of motor vehicles in Germany was still insufficient. Usually, a division-level unit It is normal to have more than twice the number of carriages than trucks!

Well, if there is another war in the future, how many vehicles will the German Army need? This question is actually really hard to say, because there are too many aspects involved. It's hard to predict. But if you look at it from the perspective of tactics, you can also analyze one or two.

Did the Germans not pay attention to logistics in history? Obviously not! The Germans actually designed the armored forces very well. In order to ensure the mobility and supplies of the troops, they configured a large number of vehicles in the organization table. If we take the planning in November 1944 as an example, an armored division has 13,000 soldiers, and in order to maintain the normal operation of the division, the German army needs to equip the division with 601 small cars, 1469 trucks and 529 motorcycles and 201 unarmored halftracks!

It can be understood by looking at the time point. When this establishment was formulated,

Germany has reached the time when the west is falling, so all troops will face the problem of downsizing. In fact, the armored division made in November 1944 with 13,000 people is not the ideal version in the minds of the Germans. The version of the German Panzer Division was much weaker, the number of tanks dropped from 215 to 160. The number of self-propelled anti-tank guns and assault guns has also dropped from 45 to 21. And the infantry battalion also lost part of the towed anti-tank guns. In other words, the previous logistics vehicles are still compressed products, so well, how many vehicles does a German armored infantry division of 17,000 people make in November 1943 need?

According to the organization table given by the Germans, such a division needs 771 small cars, 1946 trucks, and 226 non-armored half-track vehicles. And 662 motorcycles! It can be seen that the number of motor vehicles required by a real armored division in World War II was huge. To give a vivid example, in history, the output of Opel cars was only a little over 80,000, regardless of replacement and damage. Can support 20 armored divisions. And millions of other German troops will no longer need an Opel Blitz truck!

Because of the huge gap between history and reality, the so-called 1943 and 1944 establishments in Germany were never realized! So, in the end, the Germans can only look at the gorgeous compilation table and dream about it! Imagine the feeling of armored troops running at lightning speed. However, in fact, in the eyes of the Germans, the vehicle establishment that is already quite good is average in the eyes of the United States and Britain. Also as a division-level unit, the United States and Britain have more and better vehicles than Germany!

In the entire World War II, the highest level of army mechanization was still the US and British troops. The strong industrial strength of the Americans and the small size of the British army allowed them to equip the army with enough vehicles. Well, now let's look at the motor vehicles that Britain provided to the troops in the later period of the war.

Taking the British armored division after Normandy as an example, an armored division has about 15,000 personnel. Equipped with 853 motorcycles, 390 various light vehicles and jeeps. The number of universal personnel carriers and half-track vehicles is 216, and ambulances are 36.

Then the rest of the hard goods came. The vehicles below are the actual transport vehicles. These vehicles include 789 15-cwt trucks, 1309 3-ton trucks, 130 various tractors and 219 various trailers!

The number of British armored vehicles is very large, but in fact, the vehicle allocation of the infantry division is not inferior to that of the armored division! A late British infantry division had a strength of 18,000 men. In a division there are 983 motorcycles, 495 light vehicles and jeeps of various types, 595 general-purpose personnel carriers and half-track trucks, 52 ambulances, 881 15-cwt trucks, and 1,056 3-ton trucks. There are 205 tractors and 262 trailers!
