Complete Remarks
On January 16, 2022, when I finished typing the last character to save the document, I still felt a sense of unreality that this book was really finished.
From the release of the first chapter on July 29, 2020 to the official completion of the book in 2022, the story of our duel king Youyu has finally come to an end. The book has more than 3.8 million words, which is undoubtedly a heavy book and a long journey. I must sincerely thank everyone for their company so far, especially those readers who have accompanied this book to the end.
Without you, Youyu-san would not have been able to go so far.
This is the longest book I have written since I started writing. To be honest, I never thought that I would be able to complete a super-long novel of nearly four million words one day.
This book is a new challenge for me in terms of subject matter, length and achievement. It is a milestone of extraordinary significance on my creative path. There are honors and regrets during this period. There are too many things I want to summarize.
Let's talk about honor first.
As you can see on the work details page of this book, this book has accumulated more than 200,000 collections, received the Honor One-Star Badge, was included in the Qidian Premium Channel, received an average subscription of over 10,000, received the Qidian homepage recommendation, and received the Qidian APP startup splash screen recommendation
Oh, of course, I also received my first Silver Alliance since I started writing. I must once again thank the Silver Alliance boss CLV Orange, which means a lot to me.
Then I must once again thank my editor Xiaoyuan who has resigned.
When I wrote the beginning of this book and submitted it to her, Xiaoyuan took the initiative to privately chat with me on QQ and asked in disbelief: "Yu-Gi-Oh? Seriously?"
She said that at least in her career, she had never seen even a single emerging Yu-Gi-Oh fan fiction on Qidian, and was not optimistic about this subject matter, and advised me to think carefully because the prospects of this book were not optimistic.
However, despite her advice, when I insisted on publishing this book in the end, she still gave me full resources throughout the process. Including the bestseller selection, homepage promotion, and APP startup splash screen promotion that this book later received, all of which were won by her.
And the performance of this book later completely exceeded everyone's expectations.
On Qidian, books with an average subscription of more than 3,000 can be included in the boutique channel. At least as far as I have observed, Qidian has never had a Yu-Gi-Oh article included in the boutique channel in the past.
In fact, my initial small goal for this book was to get an average subscription of more than 3,000 and get a boutique badge. I never expected that it would attract so many card players, and directly rushed to 10,000 subscriptions. At the peak of this book, it was a regular in the top ten of the light novel bestseller list for several consecutive months. It was really unexpected.
I can't express my gratitude to all duelists. I will let the Black Magician Girl bow to everyone later.
In short, as of the release of this chapter's completion remarks, this book still maintains the record of the highest subscription of Yu-Gi-Oh articles in terms of data. For a rare card-playing article in online articles, it is already a miracle. Thank you all again!
But of course, there are still many regrets.
For me, the biggest regret of this book is that the rhythm of the book was not stable in the later period due to personal problems.
From the beginning to the end of this book, it took nearly a year and a half to write more than 3.8 million words. I updated three times a day without fail, including the Spring Festival, except for the leave in July.
At that time, I really couldn't bear it.
Old readers who have been following the update may also find that the rhythm of this book has been a bit out of control since I came back from the leave.
First of all, let's talk about the problems in the plot. After all, card-playing articles are relatively niche, and there are limited books to refer to and learn during the writing period. I am also exploring and improving the rhythm of this book.
In general, I am quite satisfied with the rhythm of the early stage of this book, especially in the DM chapter.
When the DM chapter ended and entered the GX chapter, I actually foresaw some problems, mainly the problems caused by the power system of the original Yu-Gi-Oh.
Unlike most other hot-blooded comics, the power system of other anime works is generally expanding, and the protagonist and enemy of the next work are often much stronger than the previous one, but Yu-Gi-Oh is not the case.
Although the cards of Yu-Gi-Oh are stronger from generation to generation, the first generation is the ceiling in the power system setting in the animation. The first generation Duel King Muto Yugi, Pharaoh Atum, and the three phantom gods under Atum, their strength and style are difficult to be surpassed in future works.
Then I will encounter a very realistic problem when writing fan fiction. That is, after the protagonist has cleared the DM copy, obtained the strength that matches the protagonist group and the wave SS in the DM, and even won the trump card like the three phantom gods, it feels like a bully when going to the next copy.
But overall, I am still satisfied with my handling of the GX chapter, although it may have been better.
In fact, in the original outline design, Yu Yu's journey should have ended with the GX chapter. So everyone will find that the final wave SS of this book is Darkness, which is obviously the wave SS of the final chapter of GX.
But there have been many people in the book review area who have expressed their hope to see the story of 5DS, and many book friends have privately chatted with me to ask if I will write about 5DS. Plus, 5DS is indeed my favorite game in the entire Yu-Gi-Oh series, so after thinking about it, I decided to add this chapter.
But now that I think about it, I think I should have followed the original outline and ended at the GX chapter. There are three reasons.
First, I overestimated my ability to control long works. I have never written a long story like this. In the later stage, the rhythm of the story was a bit beyond my control. It was obviously lacking in stamina and the quality was lower than before.
Second, it was also due to personal health reasons. I have not recovered since I took leave, and the 5DS chapter was not in the original outline. While maintaining the update every day, I have to supplement the story outline and complete the outline of the duel design one by one. It is really a bit overwhelming.
So everyone will find that in the end, the story can only be driven by one duel after another, because I only have time to complete the outline of the overall direction of the story and the duel design, and I am really unable to improve the details.
Third, it is the problem of duel design. Although the card pool of Yu-Gi-Oh is very large, new cards and new summoning methods can emerge endlessly. I may write 10 million words to write about Xyz, Pendulum, Link, etc., but aesthetic fatigue is inevitable.
I can keep adding new cards and new systems, but there are only a few routines for duel composition. The number of duels written in this book is more than any Yu-Gi-Oh animation, and the frequency of duel cards is too high, so aesthetic fatigue is inevitable. So this may be one of the reasons why it should have been finished long ago.
Then someone may find that there are more and more bugs in the duel composition in the later period.
But the fact is that the bugs are not more in the later period, but there have always been so many bugs.
The system of Yu-Gi-Oh is too large and complex, and the card pool is bottomless. The animation production team has a whole week to design a decision structure for just one episode, and there are still a lot of duel bugs in previous animations. The author has to update three chapters every day, so it is normal for bugs to appear.
The reason why there were few bugs in the early stage was that after each chapter was published, the author would repeatedly check the comments from morning to night, and would try to modify it as soon as possible when seeing someone mention a bug. It often took half a day to fix a bug.
But since I came back from that leave, my physical condition no longer allowed me to check the comments from morning to night. In addition, the outline of the 5DS chapter must be supplemented while writing, and the detailed outline of the decision must be written while maintaining the update every day, so the only way to fix the bugs is for the author to check it repeatedly before publishing it. After publishing it, if there is a reminder in the comment area, it will be modified. If it is missed, it may be forgotten.
Although there are regrets, overall this is still a book of great significance to me. I have learned a lot in this year and a half. Even if it is regrettable, I can learn from it. I am confident that the next book should be better.
Speaking of this, I would like to mention the new book that everyone may be concerned about.
The content of the new book has not been completely decided yet, and there are only some ideas at present.
But I must rest and adjust before publishing the book. After all, the current state is obviously not suitable for continuing serialization (laughing and crying), I hope to adjust as soon as possible, and it is expected to publish a new book after the new year.
To be honest, I still want to write about playing cards. But as for fan fiction, I have basically written all the books that can be written. If I design a Yu-series protagonist to travel through time and space to DM and start over, even I feel that it is a bit of a rehash, haha.
And as analyzed before, I have basically written all the routines of Yu-Gi-Oh's decision-making in this book. Even if I open a new pit and change a new deck, the sense of déjà vu of the decision-making will probably make people aesthetically fatigued.
In fact, when I saw that the big brother Qingquan Liuxiang transformed from Pokémon fan fiction to writing original beast Taming, I had a bold idea. Maybe I can also learn from the big brother and write an original card-playing book similar to Yu-Gi-Oh?
This idea made me very excited for a while, but after the excitement, reason told me that it was too difficult, hahaha. It's not that there are no books on card summoning, but I really haven't seen many original online articles about playing cards.
If I really decide to write, then quoting a line from the famous British TV series "Yes, Prime Minister" is a bold decision.
Anyway, the new book has not been decided yet. Personally, I still hope to try original works, but it is definitely not easy to make a transition.
If you duelists have any ideas and suggestions for the new book, you can also leave a message here.
Then the journey of this book has really ended here. Once again, thank you duelists for your companionship for a year and a half!
See you next year for the new book!
