Traveling Through the Warhammer World, but I Didn’t Cry

Chapter 112 The Last Fortress

"Do you want to kill them?" Dover gestured with his hands, waiting for the veteran's order.

"No need, keep moving forward."

The two left the two poor orcs who were obsessed with knocking armor plates out of cement blocks and continued to move forward according to the instructions on the communicator.

"It's really tragic." Dover looked at the huge building tomb made of collapsed towers of various nests in front of him, and there was no sign of living people inside.

The dark holes supported by the ruins of the buildings were so small that only those thin children could move in and out quickly and nimbly, while for those soldiers with adult bodies, it took a little skill and strength to squeeze in.

"Fortunately, this hole is not too small." He tidied up his dirty military uniform and touched the mask that he had not taken off for a long time. He did not feel any signs of cracking.

He did not want to dig up the body of a dead person again. It was enough to have had that experience once.

The light here was dim, and only the little sunlight that came through the piles of ruins illuminated everything around.

After walking for half an hour and crawling through several pipes, Dover and the veteran finally saw the last fortress that was still in contact on the communicator.

It seemed that the wolf spider turret on the fortress immediately aimed the infrared ray at the two people, and after a brief identification, the turret turned to another direction.

Huh!

He breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that the machine soul of the turret was still awake and did not have the bad temper of not knowing the enemy.

"Your part!"

"Hades Nest Temporary Combat 114th Regiment, stationed at the Fortress No. 514 on Cross Street, there are only two of us left." The veteran spoke. To be honest, Dover had almost forgotten what the voice of this silent commander sounded like. He only felt it was hoarse and rough.

The armored gate of the fortress opened. This gate controlled by the mechanical structure was much better than the gate of the fortress where Dover and his team were stationed, although later that gate became a welded iron block, and everyone could only crawl out and in through the firing port of heavy weapons.

Although it is a bit inconvenient, it is still safer to travel at night. Those orcs prefer to sleep in their nests rather than fight at night.

A political commissar wearing a wide-brimmed hat walked out of the door, followed by defense soldiers of different numbers. It seems that this fortress has integrated many troops that have collapsed in the nest.

"For those of you who failed to stick to your posts and died with the positions, I should have shot you according to the political commissar manual."

The cold words at the beginning made Dover a little nervous, but at the same time he was dissatisfied. They also fought desperately, how could they say that they did not stick to their posts.

"But considering the current stalemate of the battle, every soldier is precious. Welcome to the last fortress, soldiers."

The two entered the fortress, and they were finally able to take off the gas mask that they had worn for a long time and breathe the air filtered by the air purifier.

The internal facilities of this fortress are still well preserved, thanks to the orcs' artillery. Those powerful but inaccurate deadly shells flew towards the top of the fortress and directly blew off a noble spire on the upper floor.

The collapse of the spire triggered more chain reactions, bringing several tall buildings around it to fall towards the fortress.

They thought they were finished, and they would be buried by these huge buildings and survive under hundreds of meters of building ruins, or the fortress would be overwhelmed and crush everyone into meat paste.

But fortunately, the angles of these buildings when they collapsed were perfect, supporting each other, and the largest and heaviest building body formed a thick shell above the fortress.

And those smaller building fragments fell down and buried other places.

The orcs thought that the shrimps should all be dead, and they were too lazy to dig this pile of twisted metal and stone mixture, so they just left.

And this place became the last resistance fortress of the entire hive on the surface, accommodating most of the nearby guerrilla hunters and other fortress remnants.

And now, it is time for them to serve the Emperor again.

After just three days of rest in the fortress, Dover received the assembly signal from the political commissar.

Thousands of soldiers from various regiments and organizations were mixed together, and of course more were the original old forces of this last fortress.

The political commissar stood on a raised platform, making sure that he could see everyone and everyone could see him, and then spoke to the loudspeaker in his hand: "We just received a message from Political Commissar Yarick, the Political Commissar Yarick of Hades's savior."

"The Imperial support fleet has arrived at the Armageddon system. The wrath of the God-Emperor is coming and cleaning up those damn green beasts!"

There was no cheering. It seemed that the political commissar usually managed military discipline well, but Dover could feel the joy suppressed under those rigid faces.

"But we still have a mission. The Emperor's soldiers need a landing point, a landing point that can safely send them to the planet to severely inflict heavy damage on those disgusting beasts."

"Therefore, Commissar Yarrick issued combat orders to all surface combat units in Hades Hive, requiring us to cooperate with friendly forces underground in combat."

"We will meet up with Commissar Yarrick and his men on the surface! We will clean up those greenskins who insulted the Emperor's Statue Square! We will clean up those ugly anti-aircraft cannons!"

"The one-year bloody battle in Hades Hive will end in this final attack! We will end the invasion of the orcs once and for all! And then end their invasion of Armageddon!"

"For the Emperor! And for our hometown!"

Dover looked at the excited commissar and missed the peaceful life. Although he didn't live too rich, it was at least better than watching his friends die in front of him one by one.

Miss Nika, Uncle Gray, Aunt Irem.

What good people!

He could even recall in his dream the small synthetic food store where he could smell the fragrance by climbing three flights of stairs along the long road. He felt that he could still smell the puffed starch flakes with a fresh fragrance.

The mobilization was over. Everyone was talking excitedly in twos and threes about what they were going to do after they drove out the orcs. Some people were slumped on the ground, looking heavy-hearted and wondering what they were thinking.

Others were hugging their companions. It seemed that the person wrapped in the military uniform was a female soldier. The two had developed feelings for each other during their long war career.

Dover also wanted to talk to a few people, but found that he didn't know anyone except the old soldier. In fact, strictly speaking, he didn't know the old soldier either, because he didn't know his name.

As a last resort, Dover sat opposite the old soldier, looking down at his feet, touching the gun from time to time, closing his eyes and recalling the peaceful past.

The old soldier silently took out a handful of dog tags from the soldiers. The dog tags were polished and clean. The old soldier touched them gently and looked through them carefully one by one.
